South Kirkby, Yorkshire. 1979
A miners free coal allowance, each household that burnt solid fuel received one ton of loose load delivery each month. It was usually tipped on the roadside outside their gate and left for householder to transport it into our own storage space. This gave rise to the local youths making a bob or two for themselves by barrowing the coal into storage areas for a couple of shillings.
