In the late 1970s and early 1980s, there were at least three youth subcultural groups, who were defined by their hairstyles. Skinheads, who wore their heads shaven and were often considered tough and hostile, they wore tight short jeans and Dr Martens boots, that were good for kicking people with. Suedeheads, were modern day mods, but without the scooter and parker, they wore their hair just a little longer and were interested in fashion. And of course punks, who wore their hair dyed and in extravagant styles. They used outlandish makeup and they had piercings. Three friends in a bar above The Electric Ballroom, having just been to a UB40 gig. The British reggae pop band took their name from the Unemployment Benefit, Form 40. The UB40 form no longer exists.
