AIR POLLUTION MONKTON COKING PLANT, HEBBURN, TYNE & WEAR.

Air pollution from Monkton Coke Works, Hebburn, South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England 9th March 1990.   The coking plant was closed down in 1990 and demolished in 1992. The coking plant is used to produce coke (coking coal) from metallurgical coal. John Flaherty needs to use an inhaler, a high percentage of the primary schools children  use them and as many as 50% of junior school pupils need them. Their breathing has been effected by toxic fumes from the Coking Plant.
