APPLEBY GYPSY HORSE FAIR ENGLAND
Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, England circa 1985.
Dealers and gypsies gather to buy and sell horses at the annual Appleby Horse Fair. The best get sold on to horse loving families while many of the rest make their way to Europe and in particular France as viande chevaline which is a significant part of their culinary tradition.
( Up to 100,000 horse pa go to Europe for human consumption )
