BAGHDAD IRAQ 1980S

Saddam City, Baghdad, Iraq circa 1984. Saddam Hussein portraits in Liberty Square. In the huge billboard portrait he is seen military uniform and also wearing traditional arab clothing. Sadr City formerly known as Al-Thawra and renamed in 1982 Saddam City and was built in 1959 in response to grave housing shortages in Baghdad. At the time named Revolution City  it provided housing for Baghdad's urban poor.
