BIDDY BOYS 1970S IRELAND

Biddy Boys in Killorglin celebrating the Celtic Saint Brigit or Brig, who was a goddess of pre-Christian Ireland. February 2nd is her Saints Day. Biddy Boys wear disguise going from house to house, playing music, dancing, singing and collecting alms. A large straw doll called "Biddy" is carried around, if a family are unable to give some money, a pin stuck into the Biddy will suffice. The celebration last for several days. Killorglin, County Kerry, Eire, Southern Ireland circa 2nd February 1972.
