The walk has been taking place since 2004, in commemoration of the time when the people of Brinsley used to have to walk three miles to Greasley Church to bury their dead. In 2018 the ceremony was in memory of local historian Doreen Lockett who had performed a symbolic service in St Mary's Church graveyard as part of the commemoration in previous years.
