Teenage fair queens, Queen ElizabethI who granted Corby the Charter Fair.
Corby, Northamptonshire, England 3rd June 2022. Corby Pole Fair takes place in Corby Old Village once every twenty years. The Charter Fair was granted by Queen Elizabeth I in 1585. The Pole Fair starts by the reading of the Charter at the three entrances to the village by the vicar, the Rev Paul Frost who then is ‘chaired’ along with the Mayor, councillor Tafadzwa Chikoto and the villages oldest resident Mrs June Thompson. Traditionally any stranger to the Old Village has to pay a toll to enter the Pole Fair, in reference to the Charter excusing Corby residents from paying a road toll. The parade a group of four Elizabethan fair queens and a papier mache giant figure of Queen Elizabeth I and Captain Pouch, who led the Midlands Revolt of 1607.
