Oak Apple Day May 29th the Union Jack flag is carried at the head of the Grovely Forest Right procession around the village, the flag bearer wears in his buttonhole a sprig of Oak Apples. They are celebrating the right to collect wood from the Grovely forest and also the Battle of Worcester in 1651 when King Charles II escaped the Roundheads by hiding in an oak tree near Boscobel.
