ISRAEL WEST BANK 1980S CONFLICT

Jerusalem, Israel circa April 1982. A Palestine home in the Old City of Jerusalem, its decorated with Hajj painting - marks indicating Muslim inhabitants have made a pilgrimage; the Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims. The writing in Arabic top right reads:- Top line "ahlan wa sahlan" (Welcome). Second and third lines "el Hajj Musa othmani" - this is someone's name. It seems like it is welcoming this man back from Hajj as elsewhere it says "mabrouk" which means congratulations. The house is painted with red and green 'spots' two of the colours of the Palestinian flag, the other colours being white and black. The drawing centre left are of the Kaaba (Cube) in Mecca and the Al Aqsa Mosque (Dome of the Rock) in Jerusalem and possibly the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. The ancient stone inscription may be recorded in the "Matériaux pour un Corpus inscriptionum arabicarum." On the front door there are many small portraits and other markings.
