Notting Hill carnival riot August Bank Holiday Monday 1977. Notting Hill Carnival riots. A distraught gay couple; the older man was attacked and robbed his wallet was stolen.  Gay bashing or queer rolling were terms used at the time when gay men were often seen as an easy target by homophobic youths who set about to bash them up and rob them.
