Opening of the new Covent Garden Piazza, June 1980 the old fruit and vegetable market that had served Londoners for hundreds of years was moved to Nine Elms in South London, and a modern tourist market was to replace the old.  The Covent Garden Community Association fought against the commercialism of this central part of London.
