NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL RIOT LONDON 1970's ENGLAND

Notting Hill, London 1979. Father Michael Hollings at this time Roman Catholic parish priest of St Mary of the Angels, Notting Hill.  He stands behind the police cordon set up at All Saints Road. The Notting Hill Carnival started as a low key local Caribbean community event in 1966. During the 1970s rioting by both  black and white youths usually took place after dark.
