NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL RIOT LONDON 1970's ENGLAND

Notting Hill Carnival 1979 London. Young black British Rastafarian dancing to a sound system under a version of the Lion of Judah flag, that represents Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia. However the flag is incorrect, the stripes should be horizontal and the Lion is incorrect too. He is wearing a Gabicci style jumper. There is no 'G' motif on the pocket, so this may be a copy. In 1973, two friends Jack Sofier and Alex Pyser created a knitwear brand, after a visit to the Italian coastal town of Gabicce Mare, where they discovered sharp Italian styling and quality manufacturing. A unique brand was born, and went on to become the underground style leader that embodied a look that was adopted by the 'Northern Soul' music scene. 1970s UK.
