PILGRIMAGE PADLEY MARTYRS

Grindleford, Derbyshire, England 13th July 2008. On the 12th July 1588, two catholic priests Nicholas Garlick a son of a Yeoman and Robert Ludlam the son of a farmer were discovered at Padley Hall along with members of the Fitzherbert family all were arrested. Both men had trained in France to become priests. At the time to be a catholic priest, ordained abroad was deemed treason; the two were tried and found guilty, two weeks later, they were hanged, drawn and quartered in Derby. They became known as the Padley Martyrs. The pilgrimage, a short walk from Grindleford train station, followed by mass at the chapel commemorates these brave men. The mass amongst the ruins of Padley Hall. Bishop John Arnold with crook.
