Salts Cotton Mill was built in the 1850’s, by Sir Titus Salt, creating a mill large enough to consolidate his textile manufacture in one place. It finally closed in February 1986. Salts Mill named after  Sir Titus Salt was closed down in 1986  after 133 years as a textile factory. Salts Mill the centre of the  model industrial village built on the huge profits made out of  alpaca fibre in the nineteenth century, it has been named a  World Heritage Site by Unesco.
