THE RIPON HORN BLOWER YORKSHIRE

Ripon Hornblower, the Wakeman sounds the ancient Charter horn once at each corner of the market square obelisks at 9.00 pm every night of the year. He then goes to the home of the mayor of Ripon and sounds the Horn again. The custom of ‘Setting the Watch' has been carried out for 1128 years. It is the longest ongoing unbroken daily ceremony in the world.
