The Bodmin Wassailers attend the Town Hall on Old New Years Day. The first recorded evidence of the Bodmin Wassailers is in the Will of Nicholas Sprey the Town Clerk dated 1624. He left 16 shillings and 4 pence to provide an annual Wassailing Cup, the present Town Clerk, Stephen Facer entertains the Bodmin Wassailers at his personal expense (£35-00) in the Mayors Parlour. He left 16 shillings and 4 pence to provide an annual Wassailing Cup, the present Town Clerk, Stephen Facer entertains the Bodmin Wassailers at his personal expense (£35-00) in the Mayors Parlour. Wassailing songs are sung, and a toast is made to Nicholas Sprey. The Wassailer then walk around the town visiting often unannounced shops, pubs and the occasional private home where they sing wassailing songs and spread good tidings for the coming year. In 2016 the Wassailers raised £450 split between Bodmin Age Concern and Bodmin Hospital League of Friends. « less
