The Old Ladies of Castle Rising. The Almeshouses - The Hospital of the Holy and Undivided Trinity in Castle Rising was founded by Henry Howard, Earl of Northampton and were built between 1609 and 1614. Henry Howard’s will established a charity which provided sheltered accommodation for thirteen poor spinsters or widows from Castle Rising Parish, aged 50 or over, one of whom was their governess.
