Gypsy family West Coast Southern Ireland 1970s
An Irish travellers family, grandmother, mother, father, children pitched at the side of the road. The red wagon is a traditional wooden Bow Topped horse drawn wagon. The lady with the red cardigan Maisy Faulkner, The mother and child is again Mary Faulkner( née McCarthy) and baby Mary Faulkner) the children in the background are Mary McCarthy and the younger girl in her arms is Kathleen "Kaka" Faulkner. Bunratty, County Clare, Eire circa 1979. Names thanks to Frank McCarthy not pictured not born at this time. The McCarthy family depicted here are still, "travellers although these days we do not have the freedom that we would hope to have due to government policies preventing us from practicing our nomadic way of life, they have set constitutional laws since 1963 to restrict our movements and forced us to assimilate into a sedentary way of living. We we're based in Limerick initially but moved to Kerry sometime in the 80s as my late father was from there." Frank McCarthy.
