London, England circa 1971. Gay and Lesbian activists demonstrate against Pan books, outside their main central London office building. Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex ( But Were Afraid to Ask) by California psychiatrist David Reuben. It was one of the first sex manuals that entered mainstream culture in the 1960s, and had a profound effect on sex education and in liberalising attitudes towards sex. In the first edition, he suggests that all gay men were "obsessed with shoving vegetables up their backsides."
