Peat Cutting 1970s Southern Ireland
County Kerry, Eire 1972. Farming, rural west coast of southern Ireland, two farmers, they are brothers peat cutting in the traditional manner by hand. Turf was cut from the bog using a two-sided spade called a sleán and placed on a turf barrow. The turf was then stacked up and allowed to dry out slowly, to be used a fuel in a home.
