TRINITY HOSPITAL GREENWICH SE LONDON UK
Trinity Hospital Almshouse Greenwich SE London, Visitation Court Day. The almshouse was founded by Henry Howard, Earl of Northampton for the poor men of Greenwich. Shortly before his death in 1614 though not a member of the Mercer Company, he entrusted the management of the Trinity Hospital to the City of London Mercer Company. On Visitation Day, some members wear their traditional frock coats and top hats, they greet members of the Mercer Company, and attend a service in the chapel, followed by a champagne reception. Mercer Company members then attend a secret court meeting in upstairs rooms. A sumptuous lunch in the private gardened is then provided for residents and their guests, about 100 people attend.
The Almshouse is the oldest building in Greenwich.
