Rt. Rev. Dr. Trevor Mwamba,
Barking, Essex, England 21st May 2019. The Nepton Distribution takes place annually in late May or early June at St Margaret’s Church. It is the longest continually observed monetary charity in the country after the Maundy Money. Ann Nepton provided in her Will of 1728 a trust using a property in Dunning’s Alley, London which after the death of her son Joseph Green, would pass to the Company of Poulters, a London Livery Company to pay forever £40 per annum to the poor people of Barking in the county of Essex. The distribution takes place in the Church Centre, and is attended by the Mayor of Barking The rector of St Margaret’s and various dignitaries from the Company of Poulters. Names are read out, beneficiaries raise a hand and member of the Company of Poulters hand out the payment in a small brown envelope. Finally the beneficiaries and dignitaries make their way to the Nepton Tomb in the churchyard where prayers are said and a wreath is laid.
The Rt. Rev. Dr. Musonda Trevor Selwyn Mwamba,(known as Trevor Mwamba) the Vicar of St Margarets chats to recipients of the Nepton Distribution.
